Video Tape Analysis
Artifact Description
As an artifact to represent Standard 2, I have included my videotape self-analysis from my Tuning Protocol. This self-analysis includes my responses to prompts that range in focus from personal habits, methods of delivering feedback to students, methods of guiding students to inquiry, setting the climate for learning, and engaging students in an equitable manner. The purpose of this artifact was to reflect on my teaching methods.
AnalysisThe video self-analysis shows how I reflected on key aspects of student learning. In it, I take note of the way I address students' emotional and social development through the way that I facilitate discussion, provide feedback, and my physical proximity to the students. Through these reflections, I can better analyze how the students are responding to my instruction and adjust my it to be more effective. Video taping is a highly effective method to observe in greater depth the way students are responding, behaving, and learning. Reflection is an integral part of this process, as it provides opportunity for me to note what strengths and weaknesses the students and I have in order to ensure the greatest success in student learning.

SynthesisGoing forward, I hope to grow in the area of student learning by gaining more experience in understanding the developmental progression of learners and recognizing the ranges of individual variations within all aspects of development to better identify levels of readiness in learning. This skill is one that demands much experience and close observation in order to develop. I believe that self-analysis will be an important tool to help in the development of this skill. I will only better myself as an educator and best meet the needs of my students by being open to improvement and finding ways to fill the gaps in their learning. This self-analysis document provides foundational areas of focus, to which I will add as I encounter more specific learning opportunities.
