Reflection on Own Lesson
Artifact Description
As an artifact to represent Standard 9, I included a self-reflection on one of my lessons. In this reflection, I analyzed the strengths, areas for improvement, and my plans of how to improve future lessons based on what I learned from this experience.
AnalysisThis artifact shows my understanding of the role of reflection and self-assessment on continual learning. After I taught a lesson that I felt did not go well, I turned to reflection as a tool to understand possible areas of improvement. I also sought feedback from the cooperating teacher and the students. Hearing what students had to say and listening to their suggestions for improvement helped me to gain insight into changes that they believe would improve their learning. These strategies gave me a basis on which to revise my practice.

SynthesisThis reflection was a pivotal point for me in how I reacted to adversity in my teaching journey. I have learned that even the most veteran teachers experience failed lessons. I also learned how important it is to come back to the students and their needs, experiences, and interests. The most perfectly planned lesson will not be effective without tailoring it to my specific students.
I plan to always maintain regular time to reflect on my performance, practices, and effectiveness to ensure that I do not become set in my ways or stop being open to improvement. As our society changes, so should my instruction change in its content and delivery. Reflection is a key method that will aid me in that process. |
