Lesson Plans
Phonics Lesson |
Community Building Lesson |
Artifact Description
As artifacts to represent Standard 2, I have chosen two different lesson plans. The phonics lesson focuses on consonant digraphs for first grade. The lesson consists of a whole group lesson with a hands-on activity, and word work stations for partner and independent practice after the whole group lesson. The community building lesson is a problem-solving activity that is designed to build teamwork and collaboration.
AnalysisBoth lessons address student learning in different ways. The phonics lesson utilizes multiple styles of learning, including auditory, kinesthetic, visual, interpersonal, interpersonal, and linguistic. It also integrates social and cognitive development through partner work and engaging, hands-on activities.
The community building lesson focuses on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. It incorporates fine motor skills, team work, communication, and problem solving skills. The emotional components of the lesson are evident in the anticipated frustration of possibly not initially achieving the goal and also in the pride and excitement when the goal is finally achieved. |
SynthesisEach of these lessons uses a variety of learning methods and connects a range of domains to increase overall development of each student. I believe that these lessons provide opportunities to create well-rounded minds within my students and ensure that all students are able to find strengths in their learning. People do not all think alike or process information in the same way, therefore, it is important for me to make sure that I can address as many learning styles within each lesson as possible. I hope to refine this skill and continue designing lessons that foster the highest levels of learning for all of my students.
