Artifact Description
As an artifact for Standard 8, I included a formal assessment from a lesson on compare and contrast. I used a simple rubric to assess student progress, and I had students self-assess using the same rubric. Then, I made individual notes for each student and included my plan for the next steps.
AnalysisThis assessment took into account students' own view of their understanding of the content I deliver, as well as my analysis of their performance and abilities. Before moving on to my assessment of the next student, I jotted down notes that helped me to have a clear picture of that student's strengths and areas for growth, and noted some ideas for going forward. Having to read through multiple writing assignments is quite a task and it becomes difficult later on to remember what thoughts I had regarding each student. This table organizes my assessments and plans, while also giving me a reference point for future assignments so I can analyze academic growth and find potential patterns in their progress or regress.

SynthesisThe strengths of this artifact are that I can quickly compare students' self-assessment to my assessment and look for possible disconnect or similarities. I can also check for my notes on individual students or see trends among the collective class.
I plan to continue using this assessment. It was very helpful in my previous lessons and made planning for subsequent lessons much easier. If there are areas where the whole class is struggling, I will plan to reteach that lesson and adjust how I deliver my instruction so that students can better understand. If just a few students are struggling, I will plan a small group instruction time for those students. |
