Recommendation
Artifact Description
As an artifact to represent Standard 9, I included a letter of recommendation from the principal at the school where I did my ten week student teaching placement. The principal expressed his confidence in my abilities as an educator and described ways in which I demonstrated my passion for teaching.
AnalysisIn this letter of recommendation, the principal recognizes my knowledge and understanding of my influence on student growth and learning, my engagement and support of appropriate professional practices for myself and my colleagues, and my collaboration with my colleagues. I was "all in" during my ten week student teaching placement and it helped shape me in my development as an educator, colleague, and future employee. I learned so much by being an active participant in programs outside of just my required responsibilities. I built relationships throughout the whole school and turned to many people for new ideas, feedback, and sharing experiences. It was a period of tremendous growth for me. This letter shows that my professional growth was noticeable to others, as well.

SynthesisI struggle with my level of confidence in my performance and effectiveness as an educator. I find that I often compare myself to veteran teachers and become frustrated when I notice major differences in our abilities. The words of the principal left me speechless. It was incredible to discover that I am held in such high esteem by such a well-respected, outstanding leader, who regularly observes and works with excellent educators.
This letter of recommendation gave me a boost in my confidence and helped me see that I am often unnecessarily hard on myself. Now, I better understand that I will eventually become more refined in my teaching methods, however, I have a strong foundation of which I should be proud, yet humble. |
